The International Conference of Business Students (ICOBS) which has been organized by Yalova University Management Department since 2014 will be held online on 21-22 May 2021 this year. ICOBS aims to create an international platform that students who study undergraduate and graduate in business and related fields can share their scientific studies. In this environment, students will be able to develop their competencies to prepare and present scientific research. They can receive feedback about their scientific studies, meet other students and academicians working in their fields of interest at homeland and abroad, and also can create new collaborations. The theme of our conference determined as "Big Data and Business”.
Businesses aim to meet the expectations of their customers and to keep high the organizational performances of all departments for sustainable competition and market success. In order to achieve these, they try to access, store and analyze both internal and external data. In previous years, these processes were costly because of the traditional methods in terms of time, labor and economics, and also providing limited benefits in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Due to the development of information and communication technologies, businesses are faced with large data stacks. In 2000, 800,000 petabytes of data were stored worldwide and it is estimated to be 35 zetabytes for 2020. While this situation creates an advantage for businesses, it also creates serious difficulties for businesses in terms of collecting, storing and processing big data. Therefore, it is thought that researches about the use of big data will contribute theoretically and practically in all departments and functions in businesses.
On the other hand, the Covid-19 pandemic which has affected the whole world for about a year, has directly affected businesses. It is obvious that researches about the current and potential effects of the pandemic for different business functions are necessary for both academic and practitioners.
Full text papers or extended abstracts that accepted and presented at the conference will be published online in ICOBS'21 Proceedings Book with ISBN number. In addition, the ‘best paper’ will be selected by the arbitration committee among the submitted and accepted full text papers. In this context, we will be happy to see our students, who are studying at undergraduate and graduate studies in business and related fields at homeland and abroad, at the 6th International Conference of Business Students, which will be held online on 18-19 June 2021.
